A first “vaccidrive” opens in France

Italy and the United States have already adopted this method of injection, but now, near Montpellier, motorists and their passengers can benefit from an anti-covid vaccine without leaving their car.

(AFP) – The first “vaccidrive” in France opened Tuesday in Saint-Jean-de-Védas, on the outskirts of Montpellier, with a goal of 100 doses of vaccine per day. “Everything is the same from a medical point of view but the context is more soothing” because “you stay in a known environment”, confirms Doctor Lucas Rondepierre, general practitioner who ensures with other liberal caregivers the reception and the vaccination on the site.

The idea is to offer an additional means of being vaccinated, even if for this test on French soil a modest allowance of 200 doses per week was initially granted. But depending on the pace of the teams and the support of the public, this injection method could increase in power and emulate other regions.

On a practical level, candidates for vaccination arrive in the dedicated parking space and follow the same steps as in a conventional center: verification of registration, medical questionnaire, if necessary medical consultation, vaccination carried out by doctors and nurses Liberals paid by the session then monitoring time.

The people eligible for this vaccination are the same as in other French general public centers: people aged 55 and over without co-morbidities and people at high risk of life (transplanted, dialysed or under chemotherapy in particular).

While it has chosen the “drive” mode to ensure covid screening, via Large Scale Testing, the Grand Duchy has preferred the “hard” version for the vaccination campaign. Since Monday, five vaccination centers have been operating in the country: in Findel, Luxembourg, Ettelbrück, Esch-sur-Alzette and Mondorf-les-Bains.
