Mike Schultz, a 43-year-old male nurse from San Francisco, usually maintains his 30,000 Instagram followers with muscular selfies, training videos, and couple pictures with his friend.
But in one of his recent Instagram posts, Schultz didn’t show off his muscles or take a selfie after training. Instead, he released alarming pictures of his body before and after his six-week fight against Covid-19.

On the left side Schultz can be seen as a muscle mountain weighing 86 kilos. On the right, on the other hand, his face is visibly sunken and his body is around 20 kilos lighter.
Schultz told BuzzFeed News that at the end of his Covid 19 illness, he had only weighed around 64 kilos.
The headline says: “I wanted to show everyone how devastating it can be to be connected to a ventilator or intubated for six weeks.”
Schultz thought that he was young and had no previous illnesses, protect him from the virus
Schultz is one of 38 people who are believed to have contracted the virus after attending the Winter Party Festival in Miami. The festival took place from March 4 to 10, 2020 and ended one day before the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic.
Although concerns about the virus increased as more and more cases became known in various parts of the United States, most cities had no curfews yet, and the majority of people went about their everyday life.

Schultz told BuzzFeed News that although he knew about the virus, he believed he could risk seeing his friend, 29-year-old DJ Josh Hebblethwaite, perform at the festival due to his age and physical fitness.
“I underestimated how serious the situation is – until everything started,” Schultz told BuzzFeed News. “I thought I was young enough not to be hit by it and I know a lot of people think that way.”
A week later, Schultz suffered from symptoms and started a six-week fight for his life
A week later, back in San Francisco, Schultz felt a little sickly, but without thinking much about it. On March 14, 2020, he flew to Boston to be with his friend during the curfew.
Two days later he was in the hospital with a temperature of over 39 degrees and fluid in the lungs.
“The most frustrating thing was how weak I felt,” he told BuzzFeed News. “I couldn’t hold my phone because it was so heavy. I couldn’t type because my hands were shaking so much. “
After four days, Schultz was transferred to a larger hospital, where he was intubated for four and a half weeks. His friend was quickly granted medical precautionary powers if something happened to Schultz.

About 57 days after he was hospitalized, Schultz was released in the company of his friend. According to his latest Instagram post, his lungs are still recovering from the fight against Covid-19 and food tastes a little different.
Although he and Hebblethwaite have had a lot of headwind since the publication of his before and after photos – some believe that he deserved to be infected by the virus due to his participation in the festival – he told BuzzFeed News want to focus on the positive.
“Of course the negative feedback bothers me,” said Schultz on “BuzzFeed News”, “but it doesn’t bother me because I also received so much positive feedback.”
