Activate 2FA for the Fritzbox – this is how it works


With a special app for two-factor authentication, you can optimally protect access to the Fritzbox. We tell how to do it.

With the Fritzbox, a 2-factor authentication can be set up for more security. You should definitely use this if you want to access the router via the Internet. You have to be within range of your Fritzbox to set it up.

First activate the option “Confirmation via” in the router menu under “System -› FRITZ! Box users – ›Registration in the home network”

Next, select your smartphone platform, assign a name to your smartphone and download the app ”

“On the phone. Open the app and use it to scan the barcode (QR code) displayed in the Fritzbox menu: You will now see a six-digit code. In the Fritzbox menu click on “Next”, enter the numerical code from the smartphone app in the next window and confirm your entry.

From now on, you can safely confirm changes that are critical to security that you make using this user account using your mobile phone and the Google Authenticator app – even remotely. Please note that the authenticator app is always linked to a specific user account. If you have only set up Google authentication for one user, it cannot be used if you are currently logged into the Fritzbox under a different user account.
