ADAC GT Masters Sachsenring: Mercedes wins, Audi leads
Igor Waliłko from Poland and his French team-mate Jules Gounon clinched a clear race win on Sunday in the Zakspeed Mercedes-AMG GT3. Starting from pole position, the Mercedes duo had a lead of more than 15 seconds at the finish.
With a strong maneuver in the last corner, Luca Stolz took second place in his 100th GT Masters race in the Toksport-Mercedes, which also earned him and his partner Maro Engel second place in the table. Third place went to the Porsche duo Thomas Preining and Christian Engelhart (Küs Team Bernhard).
“A really great day”, cheered winner Gounon. “I just love this route. It was here that I clinched my first GT3 victory in 2016, and that was the starting signal for my career. To win here again now is fantastic. It was a perfect match. Pole, fastest lap and victory – it couldn’t have gone any better. ”
The tenth race of the ADAC GT Masters season got off to a turbulent start: while pole-setter Gounon defended his top position in front of Lamborghini driver Franck Perera (GRT Grasser Racing Team), the third-placed Mercedes of third-placed Maximilian Buhk (MannFilter Team Landgraf) was driven by Lamborghini Factory driver Albert Costa Balboa cleared away. Buhk was then hit by another vehicle and retired. Balboa had to take a drive-through penalty. The incident created a lot of air between the two teams. Unlucky Balboa had to listen to clear words from his colleagues. Reinbeker Buhk brusquely rejected an attempt by the Spaniard to apologize.
Double victory for Honda
Fugel was not impressed by a 5-second time penalty for an early start.
Dominik Fugel has crowned his outstanding home game at the Sachsenring with another start-to-finish victory.
“I knew that I had to really accelerate. Thank god that worked well. Everything worked out this weekend – I’m happy and absolutely satisfied, ”said Dominik Fugel, who is now Luca Engstler’s first pursuer in the championship. The man from Allgäu secured his next podium finish in his Hyndai i30 N TCR with second place. Two events before the end of the season now separate the two in the overall standings by 68 points.
Title decision postponed
The decision about the 2021 title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany will not be made until the final of the one-make cup from October 22nd to 24th at the Hockenheimring. With his fourth win of the season, Ayhancan Güven (Turkey / Phoenix Racing) keeps the championship open.
Ayhancan Güven celebrates his fourth victory.
The Porsche Junior prevailed against Christopher Zöchling (Austria / Fach Auto Tech) and defending champion Larry ten Voorde (Netherlands / Team GP Elite) in the 14th race of the season at the Sachsenring. Before the season finale, the Dutchman ten Voorde is leading by a margin of 24 points over Güven. There is still a maximum of 50 counters to be fetched.
“It was clear to me that I had to win in order to significantly improve my chances in the title race. Now I have to repeat this result, ”said Güven.
