ADAC TCR Germany: Fast Cupra wins in Hockenheim

Third win of the season for Eric Scalvini in the ADAC TCR Germany. In his Cupra Leon Competición TCR from Team Wimmer Werk Motorsport, the Italian dominated the first round of the spectacular touring car series at the fourth race weekend of the season at the Hockenheimring and sped from pole position to a never-endangered victory.
“We worked on the set-up well into the night. That paid off today. I got off to a great start and pushed hard right away. Tomorrow in the second race here at the Hockenheimring I will of course try to run in the same position again, “said Scalvini, looking straight ahead to the second race on Sunday after the award ceremony (start: 1.30 p.m.)
The Italian got off to a perfect start and pulled away from the front of the field. Luca Engstler from Allgäu started the pursuit of the Cupra in second place, but was never able to put the Italian in serious trouble. Marcel Fugel, who started from fifth place, also had a strong start to the race, pushing up to third in his Honda Civic TCR on the first lap.

Leader of the table, Luca Engstler, defends his lead in the overall standings with second place.

His brother Dominik Fugel did it even better, however, who made up five positions on the first lap from tenth place and shortly afterwards also conceded fourth-placed Hyundai driver Martin Andersen. With a view to the championship, in which Dominik is third, clearly ahead of Marcel (sixth), Marcel left third place to his brother without a fight.

A collision in the midfield between René Kircher in the VW Golf GTI TCR and Robin in the Hyundai led to a safety car phase to rescue the VW shortly afterwards. Scalvini’s lead was initially gone, but after the restart he immediately pulled away from his pursuers.

Nothing more happened at the front in the rest of the race. Scalvini won after 17 laps with 2.877 seconds ahead of Engstler and Dominik Fugel. The first three in the overall standings were together on the winner’s podium.

Behind Engstler and Dominik Fugel, Marcel Fugel and Andersen fought a remarkable duel for fourth place, which was decided by a technical defect. When turning onto the elongated Parabolica, the Fugel Honda rolled out with a broken V-belt without propulsion and the Dane inherited fourth place.
