Anyone who is annoyed by recurring standard tasks in Windows will find practical help here. We introduce tools that automate many things so that they run as if by magic.
Automatic tools save time
Windows 10 is the best Windows ever. But that doesn’t change the fact that some things are still unnecessarily complicated and cost valuable time. This is extremely annoying, especially with standard tasks that arise again and again. With the help of the following tools you can automate numerous, recurring tasks and combine certain actions. As a result, you save a lot of time that you can use for other, more important things.
Automatically click away annoying dialog boxes
saves you a lot of click work with dialog boxes that pop up regularly, provided that the same button is always to be pressed in the respective window. After the installation the tool runs in the background. If a dialog box appears that Buzof should answer automatically in the future, bring the tool to the foreground by right-clicking on its symbol in the systray (“Notification area”) and “Show”. Click on the cross-hairs at the bottom left, hold down the mouse button, move the cross-hairs to the desired button and release the mouse button. To edit the setting subsequently, double-click the entry in the list in the Buzof window.

Fully automatic sorting of files according to your requirements
The free program
supports you in sorting and further processing of files of all kinds. Using filters, you define which file types with which properties are automatically moved, copied, renamed, packed, unpacked or further processed with a specific application when a selected folder is scanned, for example should be.
The free program Dropit automatically sorts the data in certain directories into the correct folders.
Create rules and assignments:
After starting the software, Dropit is presented with a blue square icon with a white arrow. The icon can be seen permanently in the foreground. It can be positioned anywhere, moved to the background and minimized if desired. If you drag a folder onto the icon, the program will carry out the actions you want. You define these beforehand by clicking on the icon with the right mouse button and selecting “Associations”. In the Manage Associations dialog box, click + and create the first rule. Assign a title and then enter one or more file filters in the “Rules” field, separated by a semicolon. If the action is to affect JPEG and PNG files, for example, enter “* .jpg; *. Png”. If you want it to apply to all files, use “*. *”.
You can use the filter icon to narrow down the selection, for example using the maximum or minimum file size, a date range or file attributes. Then choose an action, such as move, copy, compress, extract, rename, delete, “open with”, “create list” and “send by mail”. Finally, select options for the selected action. After you have confirmed with “Save”, you can set up further rules.
As soon as you have dragged a folder or a file onto the icon, a dialog box opens by default. Click on the green arrow to expand a list that shows which files which action is carried out as soon as you click on the blue start button. If you want to forego this additional security question in favor of comfort and speed, click with the right mouse button on the Dropit icon and select “Options”. Now activate “Start the process after loading”. It also makes sense to activate the setting “ignore unassociated files / directories”. Another option is “also scan subfolders”. On the “Monitoring” tab you define folders that the program should permanently monitor for new files and process with the defined rules.
The free tool
Sort My Files
sorts files in any directory and automatically moves specified file types to one of the folders Music, Photos, Videos, Documents, Programs, Compressed and other files. This works quickly and reliably in practice. However, it is not possible to create your own custom category within the program. The free all-rounder
can convert supported files between umpteen formats, such as music (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG) and image files (BMP, JPEG, PNG, GIF and TIFF). The handling is simple: you drag files into the program window with the mouse and File Blender suggests the possible target formats. After the selection, the conversion starts. The new files are saved in a new folder in the source directory. With
bring order to your file system. In the background, the tool monitors any directory on your computer and automatically moves file types to a folder provided for this purpose. For example, you can set up a filter with which all EXE files are automatically moved from the “C: NewsABC.nets” folder to the “C: Install” folder.
Order to my folder
is a tool that automatically sorts files into new directories. The sorting criteria are extension, year and date of change. In addition, you can restrict which file types are affected.
Insert text modules in Word
Anyone who frequently writes texts on the PC, be it letters, e-mails or other documents, knows the problem: Certain formulations or phrases are repeated and have to be entered again and again. In Word and Outlook, you use text modules that can be called up again and again with a key combination and quickly inserted into the text.
Create text modules in Word:
Hold down the mouse button and mark the text that you want to use as a text module in the future. Then press the Alt and F3 keys simultaneously to open the “Create new block” window. Give the text module a name and optionally enter a description or assign it a category. In the “Name” field, enter an abbreviation, such as LG for “Greetings” and your name. Save the text module with “OK”.
To change a key combination for the text module, go to “Quick Parts” in the “Insert” ribbon in Word 2016 and Office 365 and click on “Organizer for modules”. Here you search for the block, select it and then click on “Edit properties” at the bottom left. Then the familiar dialog box opens and you can enter an abbreviation in the “Name” line.
Insert text modules:
In order to insert a saved module into the text, please enter the corresponding abbreviation of the text module and press the F3 key.
Phrase Express automatically inserts text modules for you in Office applications, editors and mail programs, so that you save a lot of typing.
The free utility for private use
puts an end to dull work. You define text modules in the program, which can then be inserted in almost any program in different ways – automatically, using a hotkey, a mouse click or using a selection list. The program also supports macros, program and website calls.
Configure text modules:
First, start Phrase Express. Then double-click the program icon (speech bubble with red exclamation mark) in the systray (“information area”) to open the configuration. Numerous examples are preconfigured in the area on the left. In the tree view, click on the main category “Phrase Express” and select “New folder”, which you can name for example “Own definitions”. Then click on “New Phrase” and enter any title in the “Description” line. The text that you would like to insert automatically or manually in the future is entered in the “Text module content” field. It can be provided with formatting and web links and supplemented with images. Furthermore, the button on the far right above the input box can be used to insert placeholders that request input when inserting the text module.
You specify when the content defined under “Text module content” is inserted or actions are started directly below. You can define a key combination and / or an “Autotext” which is then replaced after the entry. To avoid accidental substitutions, you should define the autotext in such a way that it is not entered accidentally. For example, you can safely add “## mfg” to replace it with “Kind regards”. Further down you also have the option of restricting the replacement to certain programs or excluding certain applications. However, the relevant program must be started for it to appear in the list.
Another possibility of inserting defined text modules or triggering actions is to left-click the Phrase Express systray symbol (do not double-click!) And then select something from the pop-up menu.
Rename a batch of files at once
Ant Renamer allows you to quickly rename files with various options. For example, characters in the file name can be replaced or exchanged.
is a freeware tool to rename multiple files at once. For example, you can ensure that all photos from your last vacation start with “Caribbean Summer 2016”. However, you can also use it to make replacements in file names, change the extensions and standardize upper and lower case. The tool can also read out MP3 and Exif camera meta data and adopt selected properties in the file names.
Use the “Insert” button on the left to choose individual files and use the right button to select one or more folders. In the “Edit” area, select one of the renaming actions offered, such as “Exchange characters”, “Numbering”, “Regular expression” or “Change suffix” and enter the desired parameters. Several actions can be combined using the “Add task” button. Use the diskette icon to save the task set. Further down in the window you will see a preview of one of the selected files – the previous name and the future one. If everything fits, start the renaming action by pressing “Start”.

Enrich several MP3 files with information in one go
bring order to your digital music collection and also complete the meta data (ID3 tags) as well as the file names of your MP3 files. After you have dragged one or more files into the program or selected a folder via “File, Add Directory”, you will see the ID3 tags in a list next to the file names, if they exist. Hold down the Ctrl key and select the MP3s that you want to make changes to, or choose “Edit -> Select all files”. In the left pane you have the option of adding, deleting or changing individual information such as the name of the artist or album for all of the MP3s listed. If there are no ID3 tags, but meaningful file names, such as “Artist – Title.mp3”, MP3Tag can read these out and set them as ID3 tags. The reverse is also possible. Missing title information can be filled in via the “Tag Sources” menu with the help of Internet databases. Confirm your changes with the Save button.
There is a saying that time is money. And besides, you certainly know better to do with your time than to fill out boring web forms with the same data over and over again or to label your MP3 collection in painstaking detail. Regular backup of important data is one of the most annoying tasks on the PC. In the event of a hard drive crash, fresh backups are worth their weight in gold. There are countless little helpers for backups, but one is particularly convenient
The advantage of PureSync: Once set up, the tool does the daily, weekly or monthly backup automatically in the background. Optionally, it will always be active when you plug in the external hard drive. Then all you have to do is unplug the hard drive later when PureSync is done. Plus, thanks to incremental backup, PureSync only moves files that have changed. That saves time and computing power. PureSync is free.
But not only backups or Windows startup can be automated. With the right tool, you can also have things done automatically that are outside of the annoying standard tasks. For example, with Fraps you automatically take a screenshot every x seconds. This is very useful if you want to document a PC game, for example. Or want to turn a video into a picture gallery.
Got to do a task over and over that there is no batch processing software for? The AutoHotkey program can help out here. You can use it to create keyboard shortcuts for starting and controlling any program.
