All-season tire test 2021 – AUTO BILD

The snow suitability of the tires was tested on the indoor test track in Ivalo, Finland.
That’s how we tested
All year-round tires first had to qualify for the main part of the test via the brake tests. The braking distance from 100 km / h was measured – once on a dry and once on a wet slope. We drew a line for the candidates with braking distances longer than 97 meters, they are just second division. That left 16 tires that qualified for the actual main part of the test. With them it went beyond the Arctic Circle to Ivalo in Finland. There, natural snow from the winter season is stored in huge cooling halls so that it can be tested all year round on groomed indoor snow trails. On the other hand, summer 22 degrees prevailed in our wet and dry tests, which were carried out on the ATP test site in Papenburg and on the Wachauring in Austria. We left the abrasion test over 12,000 kilometers of road to the wear professionals of the IFV (Ing.-Gesellschaft für Fahrversuche) from Clausthal-Zellerfeld.
