For a long time, Microsoft has offered a virus scanner that runs without installation and scans the entire system or only critical areas for viruses in one go. The safety scanner is quite nimble to the point.

However, it is not a replacement for an installed antivirus program with virus monitor. Nevertheless, the tool deserves a recommendation in this issue because it uses the same virus signatures as Microsoft Defender. The latter is the antivirus program built into Windows 10. And this did very well in the last test by AV-Test (www.at-test.org) in the summer of 2021. It did not generate any false positives and still recognized all of the pests tested.
The detection with the Safety Scanner will work accordingly reliably. If you ever want or have to check a computer with a second virus scanner, the safety scanner is recommended.
The Microsoft Safety Scanner is available free of charge and is based on the same scan module as the Microsoft Defender, i.e. the virus scanner from Windows 10.
That’s how it’s done:
Download the tool. It ends up on your hard drive as the “Msert.EXE” file. You start it with a double click, then select the area to be checked and leave the rest to the tool. The program automatically removes any malware found. A small information window and the “msert.log” file, which you can find in the “% systemroot% de bug ” folder, inform you of the results of the scan. “% Systemroot% ” stands for the system directory, which is usually “C: Windows “.
