Ever wondered why your expensive iPhone or Galaxy doesn’t need a fan? It’s designed to run at full power for short periods of time—to quickly go to a web page or edit a photo. But if you use a smartphone for a complex game and select the best possible image quality, this means permanent full load – it gets hot, the device has to reduce its performance to cool down and the frame rates drop.
Not so with the REDMAGIC 7S Pro, in which a sophisticated 10-layer cooling system including a fan ensures cooling. After all, it is not without reason that Steam Deck and Switch also rely on active cooling. You can switch on the 20,000 rpm fast but quiet mini fan with a small red switch and thus get high frame rates even with the most complex games – the fan even offers integrated RGB lighting in the two top versions Supernova and Mercury. The manufacturer Nubia has been offering smartphones with active cooling for years and calls the improved cooling system, which was installed here for the first time, ICE 10.0. It consists of a clever combination of ten active and passive components. There are several layers of heat-dissipating and storing materials, the outermost layer is formed by a large-area graphene heat sink.

The REDMAGIC 7S Pro has even more properties that make it a competitor for mobile consoles: If you play a game via the touchscreen, the pure thumb control is a handicap and you are at a disadvantage compared to other players. The manufacturer Nubia solves this with two additional capacitive keys that you can operate with your index finger. If you hold the smartphone in vertical mode, you have two small responsive buttons at the top right and left. As with a console, you can then manipulate weapons or other functions with your index finger.

Ideal screen
When you look at the frameless 6.8-inch OLED display, you only see the game in front of you. There is no notch, the HD front camera has been banned under the display. Three more cameras are available on the back, offering 64, 8 and 2 megapixels. The 600 nits bright FHD display is specially optimized for gaming and supports 120 Hz, 90 Hz and 60 Hz. Fast touchscreen inputs are additionally ensured by a multi-touch sampling rate of 960 Hz. Good to know: It’s also easy on the eyes, thanks to DC dimming flicker protection and low blue light certification. With a weight of 235 grams, dimensions of 16.6 by 7.7 cm and a thickness of 0.99 cm, the smartphone is still handy. And this despite a 5000 mAh battery that guarantees long games and is quickly refilled with up to 65W charging power.
Fast CPU with special chip
Fast CPU and GPU are a matter of course for gaming, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 a particularly powerful chip is installed. It is supported by a gaming chip called Red Core 1. Its task is to relieve the main CPU when it comes to audio, RGB effects and haptics – this is how the chip controls a complex vibration function.
Three variants of the REDMAGIC 7S Pro
You can choose between three versions: The black Obsidian model is the entry-level model with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage and costs 779 euros. The two top models not only offer 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, but also differ from the Obsidian in their elaborate design. The Mercury model offers a spacey silver-colored and transparent housing with holographic structures, while the black-metallic Supernova model has a back made of transparent materials and glass. In addition, the two top models costing 949 euros differ from the entry-level model by a pulsating RGB lighting of the fan.
The REDMAGIC 7S Pro is well equipped for online games, 5G is supported – this enables better latency than LTE. There are other special features of the software: The pre-installed REDMAGIC OS offers functions for gamers and ensures faster writing and reading processes with the Magic Write and Magic Read technologies: You should be able to install games 30 percent faster. The RAM Boost technology also improves the RAM performance of the fast LPDDR5 memory by a further 10 percent.
