And now more than ever: Airport friends Vienna celebrate collector’s day

Due to the corona, aviation events have been canceled worldwide for weeks and months. The frustration is great and the aviation community wants nothing more than a little normalcy in everyday life. A piece of this normality was returned to the visitors of this year’s Airport Friends Vienna Collectors Day last Sunday. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers prevailed and held the traditional event at the airport for the twenty-second time.

The security measures for the implementation of the event, which was held for the first time this year in car park 4, were great. But the almost 200 visitors to the event gladly accepted the expense of registering participants, measuring the temperature and using mouth and nose protection in order to be able to attend the event, which was postponed in May.

In order to be able to hold an event like the collector’s day in pandemic times, a lot of organizational work had to be done, as club chairman Gernot Kastner confirmed to AviationNetOnline: “Our team worked out a safety and hygiene concept in the run-up to the event. We also have a new location We were looking for a lot of fresh air for our event and car park 4 offered both enough air and space to keep the necessary clearances. We would like to thank all those involved and sponsors, especially Vienna Airport, who made this event possible for us. ”

As in previous years, aircraft models, books, security cards and numerous other aviation items were offered for sale and exchange at the around 15 exhibitor tables. The number of international visitors was naturally low due to the current travel restrictions, but the local aviation fans were all the more pleased that the event was held, from which they had an excellent view of what was happening on the apron at Vienna Airport. At the club booth, interested people could find out more about the club and its activities or apply for membership. Winwood Media offered the opportunity to print out entertaining photos for free with their personalized photo box all day.

The traditional highlight of the collectors’ day is the annual raffle, which again this year included tickets from Qatar Airways and Aegean Airlines, flight simulator vouchers from the Skyflight Academy and ViennaFlight, as well as model aircraft and goodie bags.
