Anderson does not disappoint on Home Tour, Van Duijvenbode does not have his day

The 30th edition of the quarantine competition had a promising line-up: in addition to our compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode and two-time world champion Anderson, the Belgian World Cup duo Huybrechts-Van den Bergh also made an appearance.

Double defeat for Van Duijvenbode

In the first game of the evening, “Titan” was allowed to face his idol Anderson. The latter had not previously taken part in the digital darts tournament due to a failing WiFi connection. Now that this technical defect had finally been remedied, the Scot was allowed to show that he has not yet forgotten the game. Since the 2019 season, the 49-year-old has been struggling with injuries and changing form. Before Corona shut down the dart world, however, he did win the first Players Championship of the year. From home it went fine: with 5-1, Anderson was too strong for Van Duivenbode, who especially missed out on the doubles.

Then it was time for a Flemish meeting between Van den Bergh and Huybrechts. “The Dream Maker” was not located in Flanders, but played from the rehearsal space of the current world champion, Peter Wright. Because Van den Bergh is stuck in Britain due to corona measures, he has been staying with “Snakebite” in Mendham, Suffolk for some time now. However, he does not lend his razor: the young Belgian has left his beard and is almost unrecognizable. It was the clean-shaven Huybrechts who stormed to a 5-2 victory and despite many missed doubles scored an average of almost 97. The former Premier League player was allowed to stand for the first Derby of the Low Countries of the evening, against the aubergine farmer from The Hague. Unfortunately, he turned out not to have his day and got a second loss with 3-5. As a result, the Dutchman no longer competed for the group profit.

“Titan” loses again, Anderson unbeaten

One person who still had a chance to win the day was Gary Anderson. The back-to-back world champion of 2015 and 2016 simply put Van den Bergh aside with a 5-1 victory, which meant that a “final” between the Scot and Huybrechts had to settle the case. First, however, a match between the Netherlands and Belgium had to be settled: Van Duijvenbode and Van den Bergh were allowed to compete for the honor and a third place in the group. The Belgian suddenly managed to pull an average of almost a hundred out of the hat and treated the person from The Hague to a money laundering match.

So the last game of the evening was decisive. Anderson managed to break and cash in the third leg and did not relinquish this lead. At a score of 4-2, “The Hurricane” had to relinquish its own leg to “The Flying Scotsman”, which also brought in his third game and thus the overall victory.
