Australian tennis star Ashleigh Bartly has decided not to participate in the French Open 2020. The number one in the world thinks it is too dangerous to travel to Europe now.
Barty is concerned about the health risks of the coronavirus. That is why she decided earlier not to participate in the US Open. And because of the pandemic, she was unable to train with her coach for a while, because there are still travel restrictions in Australia.
The tennis star announced the news on Instagram today. “It was a difficult decision to make but unfortunately I will not compete in Europe this year. Last year’s French Open was the most special tournament of my career, so this isn’t a decision I passed lightly on. ”
“There are two reasons for my decision”, the number one continues. “The first is the health risks that still exist with Covid. The second reason is my preparation. This was not ideal without my coach being able to train with me due to the closure of the state borders in Australia. I wish the players and the French Federation all the best for a successful tournament. ”
“I’m already looking forward to a long pre-season and summer in Australia,” Barty continues. “It has been a challenging year for everyone and while I am disappointed on the tennis front, the health and wellbeing of my family and team will always be my priority. Thank you to my fans for your continued support, I can’t wait to play for you again. ”
