Audi R8 (2025): Will the super sports car come as an electric car?

In 2015, Audi launched the R8 e-tron, an electric offshoot of the mid-engine sports car. Rear-wheel drive and 340 kW (462 hp) plus a 90 kWh battery ensured decent driving performance and a range of 450 kilometers (NEDC). However, due to low demand, the R8 e-tron was discontinued just a year later.
For the already confirmed successor of the V10 super sports car one has higher hopes in Ingolstadt. According to Autocar, the electric sports car is already in development and will be launched towards the middle of the decade.
The current R8 is scheduled to be phased out towards the end of 2023
The British magazine cites sources from Ingolstadt and states that the R8-Successor with a new name will appear, but should remain true to the two-door coupé formula. The replacement for the V10 car is said to be the most powerful Audi of all time – and it will continue to roll off the assembly line at the Böllinger Höfe plant.
According to rumors, the current combustion engine model will be phased out at the end of 2023 – with a big bang. We’re talking about a final hardcore special edition with rear-wheel drive.
Porsche platform for the R8 successor conceivable
As for the basis of the new car, there are two possible scenarios – both have to do with Porsche. The SSP sports architecture, which is also to be used in the next generation of the Taycan and e-tron GT, or a new sports car platform on which the successors to the 718 Boxster and Cayman is worked.
Whatever base he will use, the electric replacement of the R8 should probably be stronger and faster than that e-tron GT – it brings it to 646 in the RS version hpaccelerates to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.
Audi sportsboss Sebastian Grams told opposite carthat the R8-Although the successor has priority, the more affordable TT will not be overlooked either. It should also be a fully electric model. After all, Audi has announced that it will only bring electric models onto the market from 2026.
