AUTO BILD 8/2021 –

We are celebrating 35 years of AUTO BILD

The topics in the anniversary issue: ZEITLOS – VW Golf GTI 16V meets clubsport. TIME HISTORY – our car heroes from 1986 and today. JOURNEY IN TIME – in the Opel Omega to the Opel dealer. IN ADDITION: VW wants ID.3 convertible.

D.he 35th birthday is not a special occasion for most people to celebrate. For AUTO BILD yes, because there are magazines that don’t even make it to their first birthday. We are proud to be in our prime now. And proud of our founders, who had the courage to invent a car magazine in February 1986 that didn’t exist before. Lively, understandable, cheeky, brave – respected by everyone and never boring.

Do you remember what year that was? The US space shuttle Challenger exploded, the Chernobyl reactor disaster contaminated the world, Top Gun came to the cinema, Chancellor Helmut Kohl compared Gorbachev to Goebbels, Ronald Reagan was US President, and “Final Countdown” was at the top of the charts. Oh yes, and Bayern Munich became German champions, of course. I was still in the armed forces, drove a Golf GLS (model 78, 70 hp) and started my training as a journalist in Lüneburg in the summer. One of the bosses drove a Mazda 323, a Mercedes, my best friend back then, the photographer, soon bought the first VW Corrado G60. Later he sawed holes in the shelf of my first Peugeot 205 GTI. We were crazy about cars like AUTO BILD – and have stayed that way.
