The Belgian Minister of Health, Frank Vandenbroucke, recommends that the protections provided by the “Luxembourg” firm Avrox be no longer distributed or worn.

After the revelations published at the beginning of the week on the potential harmfulness of Avrox masks, here is the Belgian Superior Council of Health (CSS) which intervenes. And his sentence is clear: due to the suspected toxicity of nanoparticles of silver and titanium carbon dioxide, the masks must be withdrawn from the market. A statement immediately followed by a reaction from the Belgian Minister of Health.

Thus, officially, Frank Vandenbroucke in turn recommends that these fabric protections no longer be used in the country. Umpteenth rebound in what now looks like a health scandal in addition to a financial mess (37 million euros spent by the State for the supply of these masks).

Belgian pharmacies are therefore invited to no longer sell these protections; citizens to no longer use them and Belgian Defense, which kept nearly 3.5 million units in its stocks, not to distribute them. The Belgian government, last spring, ordered nearly 15 million from the Luxembourg-based firm which, however, did not seem to be exactly specialized in this type of product, nor even to have already assumed a market of such magnitude. The Minister of Defense at the time, Philippe Goffin, then assured that all the rules of public procurement had been respected. Without really convincing.

After many twists and turns in the delivery, a problem had already appeared in 2020 on the quality of the masks purchased and distributed in the middle of the first wave. Indeed, the bags offered to the population showed an unduly indicated quality label.

The presence of fine particles of silver and titanium dioxide in the fabric of the masks could, in the long term, prove to be harmful to the health of the users. And especially people already suffering from respiratory tract problems, a shame.
