Closed the swimming pool, closed the fitness club, no more than four people to practice physical activity together: this is some of the measures that await sports licensees and amateurs for the next three weeks.

Closed the swimming pool, closed the fitness club, no more than four people to practice physical activity together: this is some of the measures that await sports licensees and amateurs for the next three weeks.

Like coffee shops, theaters or cinemas, the sports community will have to get used to a new confinement. At least until December 15. In the vote on the new amendments scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon in the House, a whole section thus concerns limitations to sports practice. And with the exception of elite athletes and schoolchildren, everyone can expect three weeks without activities in clubs, halls or gymnasiums.

Thus, only the outdoor sports facilities may remain accessible to the public starting this Thursday. But this does not mean that matches can be played there or that training will take place there as usual. Indeed, the Minister of Sports Dan Kersch indicated that “the practice of sporting activities in groups of more than four sporting actors remained prohibited”. The need therefore to continue to apply the rules decreed at the beginning of the month for training. Everything must be done to avoid the spread of the virus, made easier during a session because of the non-wearing of masks or of mixing individuals on the ground or outside.

If no direct link is established between a sport and the fact of contracting the coronavirus, studies have shown that the practice of a discipline is not always trivial. Also pay attention to the side effects which can sometimes be dangerous.

So gyms, fitness rooms, swimming pools, aquatic centers must also cease their activity on Thursday, November 26. They may only remain accessible to schoolchildren and high school students or as part of extracurricular activities. The minister will present a proposal to the government council so that “all those affected by the closure of sports establishments (for example coaches or sportsmen with an employment contract) can access partial unemployment“.

Professional or high-level athletes can continue to train. The ministry has therefore decided to keep the La Coque facilities open as a national sports center. International level athletes will therefore be able to continue their preparation. But the entire amateur sports calendar should be suspended as soon as the vote of the deputies acquired. A break before the hour therefore for footballers, basketball players, handball players and others. And to think that the BGL had only found its way back to the lawns since … only one match!
