The Lower Austrians knew what was in store for them. However, the corresponding decree did not arrive until Saturday night. And that is one of the arguments why Wiener Neustadt feels badly treated by the Ministry of Health.
It is precisely there that one has only limited understanding for the negative attitude of Schneeberger and his followers. “The mayor receives daily situation reports from the state crisis and disaster control management. They alone should have got him to act weeks ago, ”says a member of the crisis team.
People cheat when they follow up on contacts
Experts in the health department therefore describe the tightening as “overdue”. And the fact that the minister himself is only moderately happy with the self-assessment of the city with 50,000 inhabitants can be seen from his official speech. On Monday last week, Rudolf Anschober (Greens) informed the KURIER that experts and state governors had agreed that regional Covid-19 hot spots had to be fought. And “the heavy pollution in Wiener Neustadt is nothing new,” says Anschober, audibly sniffed.
So the situation is somewhat tricky. Also because Wiener Neustadt asserts that you are doing your best anyway. They have tried a more stringent test strategy for 14 days. According to the mayor, the contact tracing fails because “the willingness of Covid-positive people to provide information has greatly diminished”. In other words, people cheat when they follow up on contacts.
The consequence of all this: for the first time in a city of this size, exit tests are required. Anyone who leaves the city area needs a negative corona test. An antigen test must not be older than 48 hours, a PCR test not older than 72 hours. With 42,000 inbound and outbound commuters and 15,000 passengers in local public transport, this was a considerable challenge. Not least because of this, the city has requested assistance for 300 armed forces.
