Bart De Pauw must appear before the criminal court in Mechelen on 14 January. There he is charged with stalking and electronic nuisance.
The Bart De Pauw case started just over three years ago. The VRT then fired the television maker after several complaints about transgressive behavior. De Pauw himself has always emphatically denied that he would have stalked anyone or that his behavior was unacceptable.
Bart De Pauw therefore asked for a lawsuit himself. When the public prosecutor’s office decided to prosecute him in May this year, he said he was relieved. “There will finally be a process in which the debates will be conducted in all openness. We are ready. For the first time I will be able to give context to all these allegations. I will take my responsibility if it turns out that I have made a mistake somewhere, but I will defend myself to the utmost where there has been a lie or where I have been wrongly presented in a bad light, ”he said.
Up to 2 years in prison
The agenda for the trial will be set at the criminal court in Mechelen on 14 January. Then it will become clear when the case will be pleaded. In the process, the anonymous complaints will more than likely also be made public.
If Bart De Pauw is found guilty, he risks a fine of up to 2,400 euros and a prison sentence of 15 days to 2 years.
