Belgium, after a big win over Iceland, only leads the Nations League

After two rounds, Belgium is only in the lead in group 2 of the highest level of the Nations League. The Belgians won convincingly at home against Iceland with 5-1, while England did not get further than 0-0 in the away match against Denmark. For the Belgians it was already the twelfth victory in a row.

After more than fifteen minutes, Belgium already had a lead after goals from Axel Witsel and Michy Batshuayi. Shortly after the break Dries Mertens made it 3-1 on a pass from Kevin de Bruyne, after which Batshuayi made his second. The 18-year-old Jérémy Doku, who had a basic place, determined the final score in Brussels ten minutes before the end.

Shortly after Doku’s goal, De Bruyne went to the side. The Belgian was named the best player of the Premier League by the players ‘union by the players’ union PFA on Tuesday.

With the Belgians, Koen Casteels, goalkeeper of Wolfsburg, started under the bar for the first time. He had to be replaced in the second half by Simon Mignolet because he had collided with an Icelander.

On Saturday, England won 1-0 in Iceland and Belgium with 2-0 against the Danes. Next month England and Belgium will meet at Wembley.
