Many fans were after the last episode of WandaVision on Disney + disappointed that Benedict Cumberbatch didn’t have a cameo as Dr. Strange. However, that was almost the case, but that plan was dropped at the last minute.
WandaVision was a huge hit on Disney + early this year. The bizarre series from Marvel managed to captivate more viewers week after week and became the most popular series of the moment. The expectations for the final were therefore very high.
Many fans had hoped for a guest appearance from Dr. Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The story of Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen), continues in the planned movie Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness which will be released in 2022.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admits to Rolling Stone that those plans were indeed on the table. There was even an oral agreement with Benedict Cumberbatch.
“Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would have been so cool to see Dr. Strange to see ‘. But it would have taken Wanda’s attention, and that’s what we didn’t want to do. We didn’t want the end of the show to be commercialized to move on to the next movie. We didn’t want to end with ‘Here’s the white man who’s going to show you how power works,’ ”he explains.
