Of the Bentayga Hybrid is the first plug-in hybrid model the luxury brand. However, the drive concept is not really new, after all, the 5.13 meter long and two meter wide SUV has been available as a hybrid car since summer 2019. To the Model year 2021 But the British also have the hybrid version a facelift donated. The most striking distinguishing feature of the revised Bentayga are the elliptical taillightsthat replace the square predecessors. At the front, the Bentley now sports its radiator grille even more proudly, the matrix LED headlights have been redesigned and sparkle even when switched off. By the way: The hybrid version is not only on the subtle lettering on the front doors, but also on the additional loading flap on the driver’s side to recognize.

The facelift model got new taillights. The exterior color is called “Ghost White” and costs 12,280 euros extra.

We can state that a lot has changed visually, but technically everything has stayed the same. Of the Propulsion of the pioneering model is known, and not only from the pre-facelift model, but also from various corporate brothers such as the Audi Q7 / Q8. Tucked under the noble body of the Bentayga Three-liter V6 petrol engine with 340 hpthat of a Electric motor with a maximum of 94 kW (128 PS) is supported. All in all, that’s the result 449 PS and 700 Nm system performance. On paper, the hybrid is clearly inferior to its combustion siblings with 550 PS (Bentayga V8) or 635 PS (Bentayga Speed). But how does it work in everyday life?

Bentley Bentayga Hybrid manages a maximum of 40 km purely electrically

The one sits underneath the trunk Battery with a capacity of 17.3 kWh. The Bentayga should be with him Drive up to 40 kilometers purely electrically can. Bentley claims to have found out that around 90 percent of previous Bentayga hybrid customers drive exclusively on electric power – so the owners rarely seem to undertake longer tours. I start the test. In the Bentayga Hybrid there is three driving modes: “EV Propulsion”, “Hybrid” and “Hold.”“. In hold mode, the engine and electrical power are balanced in order to maintain the charge level. Independently of the selected mode, the vehicle starts moving electrically and naturally silently. While I as a driver get used to it after a short time, I keep looking puzzled Confident of passers-by, who obviously expect the big, white SUV with all the chrome to heat up loudly in the next moment. But that doesn’t happen, because the Bentayga is a car that doesn’t induce the driver to accelerate at all. Instead of being stressed from A to B, I prefer to relax with an extensive shoulder massage in a luxurious atmosphere, listen to my favorite songs from the Naim sound system with 1780 watts and 20 speakers – and could go on for hours.

When it comes to the appearance of the materials and the quality of workmanship, Bentley is in a league of its own.

With a sensitive foot on the accelerator, I actually manage 36 kilometers purely electric, whereby the comfortable and calm disposition of the Bentayga plays into my cards. Measured against the range of many other plug-in hybrid cars, this is not a masterpiece, but in view of an empty weight of 2645 kilos and a drag coefficient that is not exactly sports car-like, it is quite remarkable. In order to be able to better assess the remaining electric range, the Bentley navigation system always shows a blue radius of action on the map. Once the battery is empty, the next charging station is activated. That With the Bentley Bentayga, charging becomes an experience: I get critical looks from passers-by, who probably think that I am blocking a charging station with the fat SUV. The looks are all the more incredulous when I open the trunk and pull out a charging cable. Since the Bentayga’s battery charges with a maximum of 7.2 kW per hour, a full charge takes around two and a half hours, while it would take over six hours at a household socket. Enough time to take a close look at the luxurious interior. Once again I notice that Bentley is in a league of its own in terms of material selection and quality impression, with the Bentayga for my taste not quite on the same level as the Continental GT is. This can be seen in small details such as the steering column levers or steering wheel buttons, which are familiar from other models of the Volkswagen Group. But that’s grumbling at a very high level.

Pure Electrically, the Bentayga manages a maximum of 135 km / hbefore the combustion engine switches on. This crossing is very smooth – just like a Bentley. If the battery is empty, the V6 gasoline engine has to run permanently. There is no mode in which the combustion engine uses the excess power to recharge the battery. The propulsion is always sufficient, the sound unobtrusive. It goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.5 seconds, Bentley specifies the Tospeed at 254 km / h. However, if you compare the 2995 cc six-cylinder in terms of smoothness or power delivery with the monumental and still available 6.0-liter W12, you will be disappointed. Naturally, the V6 cannot keep up in these disciplines.

The 22-inch rims are part of the Mulliner Driving Specification. Series are 21 inches.

But the Bentayga Hybrid has other strengths. For example the combined rangethat the British are using up to 693 kilometers specify – even though the fuel tank with a volume of 75 liters is smaller than that of the V8 / W12 versions, which swallow 85 liters. Most plug-in hybrid owners should be aware that the stated combined consumption of 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers is illusory and cannot be achieved in the real world. Because as soon as the battery is empty, additional ballast is driven around. But the consumption of the 2.6-tonne luxury SUV surprised me in a positive way. During my time with the Bentayga, the V6 11.8 liters per 100 kilometers consumed. The long-term storage, which calculated 12.2 liters per 100 kilometers, proves that this value is not far from reality.

Test car price Bentley Bentayga Hybrid: 260,965 euros

For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that customers, at least Spend 197,800 euros on a Bentayga Hybrid, presumably do not pay close attention to the decimal place in consumption. To top it all off, our test car had extras worth almost 60,000 euros on board, so that the List price including transfer costs to an impressive 260,965 euros belief. As an alternative, the Bentayga V8 with 550 PS should also be available – at least for now!
