Berghuis keeps the door open for departure from Feyenoord

As long as the transfer market is open, Feyenoord supporters have to reckon with a departure from Steven Berghuis. The captain repeated after the successful start of the season at PEC Zwolle (0-2) that he is open to a transfer. “The door is not closed”, said Berghuis at FOX Sports. “But at the moment nothing is going on. And so I don’t have to think about anything.”

The 28-year-old attacker scored both goals from Feyenoord in Zwolle. The first in the 5th minute with a shot from a distance, the second halfway through the second half from a penalty kick. “The start was of course great. My first shot on goal was right. Then you start well. We played well in the beginning. But then we let the game slip out of our hands”, said Berghuis. “We always lost the ball too quickly. Zwolle got more confidence as a result. But after the 2-0 it was finished.”

Trainer Dick Advocaat knows that he can lose Berghuis in the coming weeks if a club comes up that meets the wishes of the Orange International. “If something nice comes up, he will think about it. We give him that space. In retrospect, that is not so good, because ‘Stevie’ is a great player”, according to Advocaat. Berghuis cannot promise the fans of Feyenoord anything. “The supporters know very well how I am doing. I am very happy with my role, with the team, with the trainers. Something great has to be done if I want to think about it.”
