November 27, 2020 is Black Friday. Like no other day, the Friday after the American holiday Thanksgiving stands for cheap deals and offers. But the supposed bargains can be misleading. An analysis by the price comparison portal Idealo * showed that the average savings last year was just under eight percent. And that’s not all: in fact, many products were even cheaper before Black Friday than on the alleged discount day.

Investigation: Gaming items are cheaper before Black Friday

For gaming items such as consoles and accessories in particular, Idealo found the better deals on the days leading up to Black Friday last year. The popular Nintendo Switch, for example, was 10 percent cheaper in mid-November – but on Black Friday itself the discount was only around two percent. Idealo noticed similar price developments for graphics cards, screens and mobile devices.

Black Friday 2020: Current gaming offers

The trend of the previous year seems to be repeating itself, because in 2020 there will be the first gaming offers in the days and weeks before Black Friday. This is mainly due to the fact that retailers such as Amazon, Media Markt or Saturn have been running Black Friday campaigns since the beginning of November. As part of Black November, for example, Media Markt * and Saturn * have cheap technology deals, while Amazon * has been celebrating Black Friday since the end of October with daily changing lightning deals.
