Stiftung Warentest tested 34 Bluetooth speakers. Eleven models were new to the current August issue of the “Test” magazine, while a further 23 Bluetooth speakers had already been examined for a previous issue. The test objects were divided into the categories light (up to 500 grams), medium (up to 1,000 grams) and heavy (from 1,000 grams). Of the speakers tested, only two were rated “very good”, 18 were rated “good” and 14 others were only “satisfactory”. The models were assessed based on the criteria of sound, handling, stability, battery and data transmission behavior. The Stiftung Warentest placed the heaviest weight on the sound of the Bluetooth speakers.

Bluetooth speakers: what can the test winner from Stiftung Warentest do?
Teufel Rockster Cross – 297.28 euros at Otto *
The Rockster Cross from Teufel * scored particularly well in the Bluetooth speaker test with its pleasant and balanced sound with powerful bass and dynamic highs. The loudspeaker, which weighs almost two and a half kilograms, also received top marks for its stability. The battery was also rated “good”. There were only cutbacks in handling, which the experts found only satisfactory.
Nevertheless, the Teufel * Rockster Cross was able to prevail against the other test objects with these results. The test winner is not only the best Bluetooth speaker, but also the most expensive. With an average retail price of around 300.00 euros, it is by far the most expensive model tested. But if you appreciate good sound, you are certainly ready to dig deeper into your pocket.
The cheap (and lighter) alternative to the Teufel Rockster Cross
JBL Flip Essential – 68.14 euros at Amazon *
If the Teufel Rockster Cross is too expensive (or difficult) for you, Stiftung Warentest has another alternative for you. We’re talking about the JBL Flip Essential *, the best Bluetooth speaker in the lightest weight class. But not only that, with an average retail price of around EUR 74.00, this model is also one of the cheapest test objects.
As already mentioned, the Flip Essential from JBL * received an overall “good” rating (grade 2.4). He scored the most because of his high stability. The testers were also impressed by the sound and battery. Only in handling was it enough for the grade “satisfactory”. But if you’re just looking for an affordable and, above all, easy-to-transport Bluetooth speaker, you can’t go wrong with the JBL Flip Essential.
