Luxury with a sense of proportion: the X4 is a BMW for climbers
Expensive and impractical or just perfect? One can argue about the BMW X4 – not about its quality. The SUV in the used car test!
All-wheel drive and automatic always standard on the BMW X4
A classic six-speed manual gearbox was only available with the basic diesel, the, available, but was almost never ordered. With the two additional speed levels, the machines turn lower, always have the right gear ready and also harmonize better overall with the vehicle class. Anyone who is toying with a switch should be prepared for a long bond, as the sale will be difficult later.
Our test BMW X4 still sounds dewy after 156,000 km
The three-liter diesel internally known as the B57 is a dream – and the ideal cast in the heavy X4.

Likewise The small petrol engines are only partially recommendable. The performance is okay, the somewhat uncouth run of the Engines, known from BMW 1 Series and 3 Series, do not seem quite befitting here either. The combination of the highest level of driving culture coupled with even higher costs is what the 306 delivers Strength as well as the one postponed in 2015 with a superior 360 hp. It is hardly slower, but it is significantly more economical with 313 hp power diesel. We opt for the golden mean, the with 258 . Even after more than 156,000 kilometers, it still sounds dewy in our test car from the dealership in Bockel, nails very fine and free of background noises. If need be, the three-liter whips the 1.8-ton in less than six seconds to Tacho 100, can also be used with seven liters in everyday life without any problems. Horse owners can look forward to a trailer load of 2.4 tons.
Problems are rare with the BMW X4

Basically The balance of defects is positive of. Apart from, depending on the driving style and mileage, axle suspensions, shock absorbers and springs that are pushed to their limits, there are problems with the Rare. As is usual with SUVs, the brake wear is a bit higher, the navigation system is sometimes in a bad mood and hangs up. Little things. The interior, across from that significantly upgraded, still convinces after five years good quality and little wear and tear. That a xenon burner gave up on the test car – for free. Also the chain problems with the four-cylinder have followed many years, let the cold. They no longer affect the built-in one -Diesel, but the predecessor . More problematic, but unfortunately common, are particle filters that are too much Short-haul use can close. Especially the big six-cylinder should run longer under load every now and then so that they feel comfortable and run properly.
