Brighton & Hove Albion football club has made it to the fourth round of the FA Cup with great difficulty. The Premier League club was unable to shake off Newport County in regular playing time and in the necessary extension (1-1). Brighton escaped a painful failure in the penalty shootout: 3-4.
Brighton, with Davy Pröpper (63rd minute) and Joël Veltman (108th minute) as substitutes, could not score against the club from Wales. In the final phase, goalkeeper Jason Steele even had to save the visitors a few times. In the 90th minute, Solly March curled the ball into the goal. However, that was not enough for qualification. Six minutes into injury time, the ball went into the own goal via Brighton defender Adam Webster.
No decision was made in the extension. In the penalty shootout, both Newport and Brighton missed three times in the regular run of five penalties. Then Pröpper used the sixth kick and teammate Adam Webster punished another foul at the home team: 3-4.
