If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be a billionaire, a visit to the Burj Al Arab in Dubai is probably the closest you can get to it. It is shaped like an Arab dhow sail and cost a billion US dollars to build.
With Rolls Royce and chauffeur, a 14-piece set of Hermès cosmetics, personal butlers and almost everything made of 24-carat gold, it’s extremely extravagant. According to the hotel, the guest-to-staff ratio is 6: 1. Since opening 20 years ago, the Burj Al Arab hotel has won award after award for its vision of luxury.
Last year it was named the best hotel in the world at the Ultra Awards of the British daily newspaper “Telegraph”. The Forbes Travel Guide also gave the hotel five stars. At the opening, a journalist raved that it actually deserved seven stars – a rating that doesn’t even exist. The Burj Al Arab hotel evoked the same reaction during my trip to Dubai – but at the same time I was overwhelmed by the magnificent view the hotel offered me.
I can’t afford to pay $ 1,500 a day, but I can’t help saying that a night in the dream world of the Burj Al Arab is very interesting. See how it was here:
I thought the supposedly most luxurious hotel in the world could never live up to the hype – I was wrong
