The American studio will make a ten-part Dutch television series of the book Bouzamour. It is the first time that CBS has developed a Dutch-language production in this way. AVROTROS is co-producer and will broadcast the series in the Netherlands.
Bestsellerboy is after The Pledge of Pisa the second novel by the 30-year-old writer. The book is about the adventures of a young Amsterdam writer of Moroccan descent whose life is turned upside down when he writes a bestseller. The recordings are expected to take place in the second half of 2021 in Amsterdam and Morocco.
“It is a difficult combination of qualifications that makes finding a good protagonist difficult,” says director Norbert ter Hall. “Age, availability, sporty, the looks of a protagonist and love for language. But we are going to find him. ” Ter Hall emphasizes that actors who are already in training, as well as young people with talent who are not enrolled in a drama school, may register.
Candidates can apply until February 12 through casting agency Oimundo. The series will be the first project of the new production company Midpoint Film & TV by the Dutch screenwriters Robert Alberdingk Thijm (A’dam-EVA), Pieter Bart Korthuis (Penoza) and Franky Ribbens (Hollands Hoop). They prescribe the scenario Bestsellerboy together with Bouzamour.
It is the second successful author’s book to be filmed; screenwriter Alberdingk Thijm and director Norbert ter Hall previously made a film of it The Pledge of Pisa. The coming of age story received rave reviews and lead actor Shahine el-Hamus won a Golden Calf for his performance.
