In the first months of this year, 40% more second-hand motorhomes were sold than last year, according to sales figures from data specialist RDC. March even doubled compared to the same month last year. The number of second-hand caravans sold increased by 7% in the first quarter of 2021.
“Caravan companies benefited from the measure to reopen showrooms by appointment, which has been in effect since the beginning of March,” said Bovag. According to the trade association, the companies thus made up for the backlog that they incurred in January and February, when the showrooms still had to remain closed.
Partly due to the lockdown, the number of new caravans sold in the first quarter was somewhat lower than a year ago, despite catching up in March.
