The electronics chain Conrad wants to close almost all branches for private customers before the end of the year. Only one remains.
Conrad only wants to serve private customers online in the future.
If you are looking for a specific cable or an electronic component, you will often not find it at MediaMarkt. Depending on the location, a visit to the stores of the electronics chain Conrad offered a way out. However, this alternative will only remain available to private customers until the end of the year. By then, the company plans to close almost all of its stores.
Business customers in focus
Visiting a Conrad shop is only possible near the company headquarters in Hirschau. The nearby branch in Wernberg-Köblitz will be the only one that will continue to receive private customers in the shop. In a press release, Conrad announced that in the future they would like to focus on retail stores for business customers and online trading.
Consequences of Corona
As an explanation for this step, Conrad gives the effects of the corona pandemic. The majority of customers would no longer visit the shops, but instead order via the Internet. We have been preparing for this development for a long time. However, the consequences of the lockdowns would have accelerated this trend. In the future, Conrad therefore sees itself as a “leading B2B procurement platform for technical operating needs”.
Nine locations close
Nine locations are affected by the closure. In addition to Berlin-Kreuzberg, Bonn, Bremen, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg-Wandsbek, Hanover, Mannheim and Munich-Tal, the Regensburg branch is also closing. If desired, employees could apply for other vacancies within the Conrad Group. The employees were also informed at an early stage. We strive for socially responsible solutions.
