Corona figures: Belgium now has more than 22,000 corona deaths

Our country has reached the sad milestone of 22,000 corona deaths. In addition, the number of infections is also increasing again. That figure has been increasing all week and this increase is also increasing. Today it is an increase of 24 percent.

In the latest figures on Sciensano’s dashboard, we see that the number of new coronavirus infections is rising again. Earlier this week there was an increase for the first time in more than ten days and since then the number of new infections has been increasing every day. In addition, our country today also reaches the milestone of 22,000 deaths from the corona virus.

On average 2,293.7 new infections per day (+24 percent)

In the week from 16 to 22 February, an average of 2,293.7 new infections with the corona virus were diagnosed daily. That’s an increase of 24 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.

Currently, an average of 38,013.4 corona tests are administered daily. That is a decrease of 9 percent compared to the previous seven-day period. But it is an increase compared to a day ago.

The percentage of tests that turn out to be positive, the so-called positivity ratio, increases slightly compared to the previous seven-day period. This is now 6.6 percent, which is 1.3 percent higher than in the last seven-day period. Yesterday the positivity radio was exactly the same. With a positivity ratio of 6.6 percent, our country is more than one percent above the 5 percent threshold used by the World Health Organization to control the crisis. However, experts in our country want to see this figure fall to 3 percent before introducing easing.

Average of 125.6 hospital admissions per day (+4 percent)

The number of hospital admissions is also increasing. This now concerns an average of 125.6 admissions per day. That is 4 percent more than in the previous seven-day period, but exactly the same figure as yesterday.

A total of 1,761 people were hospitalized yesterday after being infected with the corona virus. That is 13 more than the day before. Of these, 368 are in intensive care units. That is 6 more than the day before. 181 people must be artificially ventilated.

Our country now has more than 22,000 corona deaths. The number of hospital admissions rose by 4 percent to an average of 125.6 admissions per day. There are currently 1,761 people in hospital with a corona infection, 368 of which are in the intensive care unit. There is still a decrease in deaths. That figure has decreased by 30 percent and is now an average of 28 per day.

An average of 28 deaths per day (-30 percent)

Although our country now has more than 22,000 corona deaths, the average number of deaths per day is still decreasing. Between 16 and 22 February, an average of 28 people died every day from the effects of a corona infection. That is also a decrease of 30 percent compared to a week earlier. In total, 22,006 people have already died of Covid-19 in our country.

Vaccination

At the moment, 442,640 people have already been vaccinated against the corona virus for the first time in our country. In proportion, 4.8 percent of the Belgian population over 18 years of age is currently partially vaccinated against the corona virus. That amounts to 3.9 percent of the entire population. 288,712 Belgians have already received a second dose of the corona vaccine. That corresponds to 3.1 percent of adults and 2.5 percent of the total population.
