The number of coronavirus infections in our country is increasing for the second day in a row. In addition, the positivity ratio also rises again to 6.3 percent. The number of hospital admissions is also increasing slightly. There is still a strong decrease in deaths.
In the latest figures on the Sciensano dashboard, we see that the number of new coronavirus infections is rising again. Yesterday there was an increase for the first time in more than ten days. The positivity ratio is also increasing. After a stagnation yesterday, hospital admissions show a slight increase today. The number of deaths is still decreasing.
Average of 2,098.6 new infections per day (+14 percent)
In the week of 13 to 19 February, an average of 2,098.6 new infections with the corona virus were diagnosed daily. That’s an increase of 14 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.
Currently, an average of 37,548.4 corona tests are administered daily. That is a decrease of 15 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.
The percentage of tests that turn out to be positive, the so-called positivity ratio, increases slightly. This is now 6.3 percent, which is 1.3 percent higher than in the last seven-day period. This increase is probably related to the decrease in the number of tests administered. With a positivity ratio of 6.3 percent, our country is more than one percent above the 5 percent threshold that the World Health Organization uses to control the crisis. Experts in our country, however, want to see this figure fall to 3 percent before introducing easing.
Average 122.6 hospital admissions per day (+1 percent)
The number of hospital admissions is also increasing. This now concerns an average of 122.6 admissions per day. That is 1 percent more than in the previous seven-day period.
A total of 1,708 people were in hospital yesterday after being infected with the corona virus. That is 91 more than the day before. Of these, 348 are in intensive care units. That is 19 more than the day before. 175 people must be artificially ventilated.
