The figures related to the corona crisis in our country continue to rise. At the moment, this concerns an average of more than 10,000 infections per day. The occupancy rate in Belgian hospitals is also increasing sharply.
The corona figures in our country have passed a new milestone. It now concerns an average of 10,454 new infections. For the first time, there are more than 10,000. The figures for hospital admissions and deaths also continue to increase.
More than 10,000 new infections per day
In the week of 13 to 19 October, an average of 10,454 infections was detected. That is an increase of 69 percent compared to last week. For the first time since the start of the corona outbreak in our country, that figure is higher than 10,000.
On four of those seven days, the number of infections was also higher than 12,000. The positivity ratio also continues to rise. Currently, 16.6 percent of the tests return positive. Good for about one in six tests.
Occupancy of hospitals continues to increase
There is also an increase in the number of hospital admissions. That is now an average of 350 per day. That is an increase of 82 percent compared to last week. Yesterday it was even 496 admissions in one day. There are currently 3,649 patients in hospital with a corona infection, of which 573 are in the intensive care unit.
The number of deaths from Covid-19 rises to an average of 35 per day. That is an increase of 12.6 percent compared to the figures from a week ago.
Intertwined in sports and culture
The consultation committee will give more information at a press conference about the new measures that were decided on yesterday evening. They have an impact on sports and culture.
It would be a ban on audiences in all professional competitive sports. The public is still allowed in theater and concert halls, there are a maximum of 200 people. Furthermore, it is again prohibited to practice amateur sports for anyone over 18 years old. Also the older years of the youth movement should not hold indoor activities. The measures would take effect immediately and would be in effect for four weeks.
