The figures related to the corona virus in our country continue to fall slightly. The number of tests administered per day is decreasing. As a result, there is a slight increase in the positivity ratio.
In the latest figures on the Sciensano dashboard, we see that the number of new coronavirus infections continues to decrease. In addition, the number of hospital admissions and deaths due to the consequences of a corona infection are also declining further.
On average 1,886.4 new infections per day (-5 percent)
In the week from 10 to 16 February, an average of 1,886.4 new coronavirus infections were diagnosed daily. That is a decrease of 5 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.
Currently, an average of 40,109 corona tests are administered daily. That is a decrease of 17 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.
The percentage of tests that turn out to be positive, the so-called positivity ratio, increases slightly. This is now 5.4 percent, which is 0.4 percent higher than in the last seven-day period. This increase is probably related to the decrease in the number of tests administered. With a positivity ratio of 5.4 percent, our country is still flirting with the 5 percent threshold that the World Health Organization uses to see the crisis under control. However, experts in our country want to see this figure fall to 3 percent before introducing easing.
Average of 119 hospital admissions per day (-5 percent)
The number of hospital admissions also continues to decline slightly. This now concerns an average of 119 admissions per day, a decrease of 5 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.
A total of 1,606 people were in hospital yesterday after being infected with the corona virus. That is 18 more than the day before. Of these, 313 are in intensive care units. That is 2 more than the day before. 160 people must be artificially ventilated.
Average of 39.4 deaths per day (-4.8 percent)
Between 10 and 16 February, an average of 39.4 people died every day from the effects of a corona infection. That is also a decrease of 4.8 percent compared to a week earlier. In total, 21,859 people have already died of Covid-19 in our country.
At present, 385,311 people have already been vaccinated against the corona virus for the first time in our country. In proportion, 4.18 percent of the Belgian population over 18 years of age is currently partially vaccinated against the corona virus. That amounts to 3.35 percent of the entire population. 245,518 Belgians have already received a second dose of the corona vaccine. That corresponds to 2.66 percent of the population.
