After the approval of the first self-tests in Germany, there is still no official information about when sales will start in pharmacies and drugstores. But there are already offers for the tests on the Internet.

We’ll show you how you can order the tests online. We only list those tests that have been officially approved by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices.

Lyher Covid-19 rapid antigen test: In the online shop of the company Viromed from Schleswig-Holstein you can buy a self-test with which a front nasal swab should be sufficient so that you get a result in 15 minutes. You can now even buy individual tests here at a price of 9.90 euros. We explain how the test works below.

Clinitest from Siemens Healthcare: The Siemens test should also work with a front nasal swab. The company does not have its own online shop for end users. You can order the test via this online shop, but only in packs of 20, 60 and 120. For 20 pieces, the unit price is 7.50 euros, and the 120 version is 7 euros. However, delivery currently takes five to seven working days, so that depending on availability, going to the pharmacy may be the faster way.

Rapid SARS-CoV-2 antigen test: The test by the Chinese manufacturer “Boson Biotech” has so far only been allowed to be sold by a German company – “Löwe Medizintechnik” from Waltenhofen in Bavaria. At the time this text was published, the online shop was still in maintenance mode. It was heard from company circles that it would take another two to three weeks before the company could start delivering.

This is how the self-tests work

In these three tests, it is sufficient to swab the front nasal area: you push the supplied cotton swab about four centimeters into each nostril and turn it back and forth. This is nowhere near as deep as previous tests performed by healthcare professionals.

Then you dip the stick in a test tube with liquid and wait a few minutes. If you then drip the liquid onto the test strip provided, the test will show the result after 10 to 15 minutes – negative, positive or invalid.
