The Corona warning app will be 20 million euros more expensive than planned by the end of 2022. This is reported by the world on Sunday, citing the Federal Ministry of Health. The Federal Ministry of Health had previously estimated the costs for the further development of the Corona-Warn-App (CWA) at 50 million euros by the end of 2022. But in fact it should now be 70 million euros.
That’s why the CWA costs more
According to “Welt am Sonntag”, the additional costs arise for the “connection of further test sites” or for the “improved display” of the current status proof. The developers also ensured that technically expired certificates were renewed and other “small improvements and adjustments” were made. The Corona-Warn-App will soon be more colorful and will display the vaccination status in color. This should make checks easier. You can read more about this change here: Are you green or blue? Corona warning app will soon show vaccination status in color.
The previous total cost
So far, the development of the Corona warning app has cost around 160 million euros. In January 2022, there was still talk of 130 million euros.
SAP and the Telekom subsidiary T-Systems are developing the CWA. According to “Welt am Sonntag”, the Federal Court of Auditors started a review of the profitability of the Corona warning app in spring 2022.
