Coronavirus: All numbers continue to decline

The corona figures in our country continue to decline for the time being. This is evident from the latest figures on the Sciensano dashboard. This continues the trend of the past few days.

The figures related to the corona virus in our country have been declining for several days in a row. For example, the average number of new infections per day dropped below 2,000 yesterday for the first time since the end of September, and the decline continues today.

New infections

In the week of 20 to 26 December, an average of 1,801 new infections with the corona virus were diagnosed daily. That’s a decrease of 30 percent compared to the previous 7-day period. On December 26, the last day for which a daily figure is known, 1,146 new infections were detected. The day before, on Christmas Day, it was 517. This of course contributes to the weekly average being pulled down.

During the end-of-year period, noticeably fewer tests are also conducted, which of course also contributes to fewer infections being detected. It now concerns an average of 29,650 corona tests per day. That is a decrease of 23 percent compared to the previous 7-day period. The positivity ratio also continues to decline slightly. It is now 7.17 percent, 0.4 percent lower than yesterday. That means that of the total number of corona tests, an average of 7.17 percent turns out to be positive.

Hospital admissions

The number of hospital admissions decreased by 14 percent and is now on average 158 per day. The threshold for easing is set at 75 hospital admissions per day and has therefore not yet been reached.

A total of 2,423 people are now in hospital after a corona infection, of which 499 are in intensive care units. Both figures are slightly down.

The number of deaths decreases to an average of 77 per day. That is a decrease of 18 percent compared to a week earlier. In total, 19,361 people have already died in our country from the consequences of a corona infection.
