In the US, the number of confirmed infections with the coronavirus has risen to more than ten million. That came out on Monday from data from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. The US recorded the highest absolute number of detected infections, followed by India with over 8.5 million cases. In third place is Brazil, where around 5.7 million infections were registered.
Experts assume a high number of unreported corona infections in most countries. The US had passed the nine million confirmed infections threshold just ten days ago. The number of new infections recently rose to an average of more than 100,000 per day. At the weekend, the number was even more than 120,000, according to Johns Hopkins.
More than 237,000 people have died in connection with Covid-19 in the United States, a country of around 330 million people – more than in any other country. According to Johns Hopkins, there are now more than 50 million confirmed infections and associated 1.25 million deaths worldwide. The Johns Hopkins website is regularly updated with incoming data and therefore shows a higher level than the official figures of the World Health Organization (WHO).
