Coronavirus: number of infections rises for the seventh day in a row

For the seventh day in a row, there has been an increase in the number of coronavirus infections in our country. In the week of September 2-8, the number of infections with the virus averaged 588 per day, an increase of 29 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.

The new figures on the dashboard of the Sciensano health institute show that the number of new coronavirus infections in our country is increasing again. It is already the seventh day in a row that the number of infections has increased.

An average of 588 new infections per day

The number of coronavirus infections in our country was an average of 588 per day in the week from 2 to 8 September. That is good for an increase of 29 percent compared to a week earlier and already the seventh day in a row that there has been an increase in the number of infections.

At the moment it concerns 63.5 new infections for 100,000 inhabitants, which is also an increase of 8 percent. In total, our country now has 91,537 confirmed infections with the virus.

Hospital admissions and deaths

The number of hospital admissions is also increasing, now an average of 22.3 per day. That is an increase of 6.6 percent compared to a week ago. Yesterday there were 254 (+5) corona patients in the hospital, five more than the day before. Yesterday, 67 beds were occupied in intensive care units, two more than the day before yesterday. A total of 19,239 have been admitted in our country with an infection with Covid-19.

The number of deaths per day is decreasing and now stands at an average of 2.6 deaths per day. The total number of deaths from the coronavirus in our country is 9,919.
