Coronavirus: The decline in figures continues

The corona figures in our country continue to fall sharply. This is evident from the new figures on the Sciensano dashboard. Just like in recent days, the average number of infections, hospital admissions and deaths from the corona virus is decreasing. It is even about a stronger decline than in recent days.

Also on the last day of the year, the corona figures in our country continue to decline. Just like yesterday and the day before yesterday, there are strong decreases in the number of new infections, partly due to the end of the year period.

On average 1,790 new infections per day (-29%)

In the week of December 21 to 27, an average of 1,790 new infections with the corona virus were diagnosed daily. That is a decrease of 29 percent compared to the previous 7-day period. In total, 644,242 Belgians were already infected with the corona virus.

This decrease is due to the fact that fewer people are being tested during the end of the year period. For example, an average of 29,513 corona tests are administered daily. That is a decrease of 24 percent compared to the previous 7-day period. Of those tests, an average of 7.14 percent returns positive. That’s the positivity ratio, which is down 0.5 percent.

Average of 154 new hospital admissions per day (-15%)

In the week of December 24 to 30, the number of hospital admissions fell by 15 percent. That figure is now on average 154 per day. According to experts, this figure must be below 75 percent to consider easing.

A total of 2,338 people were in hospital yesterday after a corona infection, 85 fewer than the day before yesterday. Of these, 496 people stayed in intensive care units. This concerns 3 people less.

Average of 74 deaths per day (-20.7%)

The number of deaths falls to an average of 74 per day. That is a decrease of 20.7 percent compared to a week earlier. A total of 19,441 Belgians have already died from infection with the corona virus.
