1. Starts the working day with a ritual.
In the home office in particular, it is important to draw boundaries between work and leisure, Kondo emphasizes.
To do this, she suggests starting each morning with a ritual or activity that starts your day at work. “I hit a tuning fork and distribute essential oils to signal that I am changing gears,” Kondo says of her own morning routine.
She also communicates to her two children when she starts her work day, so there is a clear understanding of when she is available and when she is not. “They may knock loudly from time to time,” she says of their children, “but they understand that there is a limit and they may have to wait a moment.”
