Spain: Real Madrid crashed hard at Valencia

Real Madrid has taken the second defeat in La Liga at mid-engine Valencia. The Spanish champion, who has so far made a changeable impression this season, went down hard in Mestalla: 4-1.

Carlos Soler was the big man at the home team. He scored three times from a penalty kick. The other goal was scored by Raphaël Varane (own goal). For Real Madrid, Karim Benzema had still opened the score in the hectic game.

Everything went wrong with Soler’s first penalty kick. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois turned the bet, after which the Valencia midfielder hit the post in the rebound. Teammate Yunus Musah then did score, but the video referee denied his goal because of running in too early. Then Soler was allowed to take over the penalty kick and this time he did score.

Real Madrid is now fourth with sixteen points. Real Sociedad, which won 2-0 against Granada, leads with twenty points. Barcelona takes eighth place with 11 points after the home win against Real Betis (5-2).

Italy: AC Milan escapes first defeat

AC Milan has escaped the first defeat in Serie A. The leader got away well with 2-2 against second-topper Hellas Verona. Zlatan Ibrahimovic saved a point in extra time with a striking header. He had previously missed a penalty kick.

AC Milan started the game dramatically. After less than twenty minutes, the home team already faced a 0-2 deficit due to hits from Antonin Barak and Davide Calabria (own goal). Giangiacomo Magnani narrowed the deficit in the 27th minute, also with an own goal, after which the home club started the hunt for the equalizer.

Ibrahimovic failed to level AC Milan in the 65th minute. The 39-year-old star shot the ball from a penalty kick over the goal of Verona. At the last minute he made up for that mistake with the nice equalizer.

AC Milan leads with 17 points, followed by Sassuolo with 15 points. Title holder Juventus is fifth with 13 points.
