The derby between FC Twente and Heracles Almelo ended in 1-1. FC Twente took another point in the Eredivisie for the first time since mid-March. Earlier this season, the meeting between the two provincial rivals in Almelo also ended in a draw (2-2).
The home team only tied the score in the 85th minute after a nice shot by Danilo, who was accurate for FC Twente for the sixteenth time. Mats Knoester had put Heracles ahead in the 70th minute with a well-placed header after a cross from the left by Rai Vloet.
Fifteen minutes before the end, a remarkable moment took place. FC Twente seemed to receive a penalty, but the decision was reversed on the advice of the VAR. The reason was that at the start of the attack the ball did not stop at goalkeeper Joël Drommel’s goal kick. Trainer Ron Jans and the players could hardly believe that referee Allard Lindhout returned to his decision for something so small, but continued to hunt for the equalizer. It came not much later.
Jans had changed his team in quite a few places; Luciano Narsingh, Queensy Menig, Godfried Roemeratoe and Dario Dumic started on the bench. Wout Brama was the captain.
FC Twente has now not won twelve home matches in a row, a negative club record.
