DHL Packstations: New milestone – so it goes on

Deutsche Post DHL is reacting to the booming online trade and is building more and more Packstations. There are now 10,000. This is how it goes.

DHL now operates 10,000 Packstations in Germany. The company announced this today. The 10,000th Packstation is located on the premises of the Duisburg housing association GEBAG in Uhlenbroicher Weg. The capacity of the app-controlled machine at Uhlenbroicher Weg 107 in Duisburg is 78 compartments. To use it, customers need the free Post & DHL app (for Android and for iOS) on their smartphone. This app has been a requirement for using the Packstations since April 1, 2022. You can register for the Packstation service at www.dhl.de/packstation.

This is how the packing station network is developing

Deutsche Post DHL is reacting to the ever-growing online trade and is expanding its Packstation network: by the end of 2023, 15,000 Packstations should be available nationwide. At the end of 2021 there were 8,500 machines nationwide.

By the end of 2022, the number should then increase to 11,500, in order to reach the 15,000 Packstations mark by the end of 2023. This is significantly more than previously planned, because DHL actually only wanted to make around 12,000 Packstations available by the end of 2023. But now there should be around 15,000 DHL Packstations. Further expansion is to take place nationwide, both in urban and rural regions.

The development.

DHL introduced the Packstations service to the German market in 2003. At the end of 2014, 2,800 Packstations were installed nationwide. At the end of 2019 there were 4400 Packstations and at the end of 2020 there were 6500.

In cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, around 800 Packstations will be operated conveniently at local and long-distance train stations by the end of 2023. Housing associations also play an important role as location providers in residential areas, because Packstations close to one’s own home can also contribute to increasing the quality of living.

Deutsche Post DHL justifies the constantly increasing number of Packstations with the fact that “sender and recipient customers continue to have a very high interest in the Packstation service”. With the Packstations, not only the receipt but also the dispatch of franked parcels and parcels is possible around the clock. Packstations are usually located in central places of everyday life, such as supermarkets, on company premises or at public transport stops.

You can register for the free Packstation service at www.dhl.de/packstation. Returns and all other franked shipments can also be sent via the Packstation without registration. Real estate owners who would like to make space available for packing stations can find out more at www.dhl.de/ Eigen-packstation. .
