Disney makes live action film of ‘Snow Queen’

Disney can no longer be kept with its new live action films. According to Disney website DisInsider, the studio is already working on a new remake of Snow Queen, a classic by Hans Christian Andersen.

After recent announcements from Mulan 2, Robin Hood, The Little Mermaid and Cruella, Disney is now also releasing a live action movie from Snow Queen. Although the story is very similar Frozen, this time it will not be about Anna and Elsa.

Snow Queen

Snow Queen, or The Snow Queen, is a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen from 1844. The story is about two friends who are dispersed by accident. Kay gets a shard of glass in his eye and heart that causes a deadly chill. He falls completely under the spell of the Snow Queen. Gerda wants to help her boyfriend and goes out into the wide world in search of Kay. A true battle between good and evil, in which love hopefully triumphs.

There is not much information about the new film yet, but according to the sources at DisInsider, Kristin Burr would take on the production. Burr is also at the helm of the production of Cruella expected in 2021.

Disney is clearly a fan of the story of the Snow Queen. Frozen is based on the fairy tale. When that film was still in full development, at a certain point it even had the name “Snow Queen“. Frozen came out in 2013 and is still a popular Disney movie to date. And in 2019 there was a successful sequel to the story about the ice princess. In the new remake of Snow Queen we will have to do without Anna, Elsa and Olaf.

Disney has not yet officially confirmed that the new live action movie is coming.
