Disney Plus Star is finally here! The new feature for adults has finally been available since February 23, 2021. For the launch of the expanded offer, we looked around at Disney Plus. How smooth is the new channel integrated? What content does Star offer and how child-safe is the new offer?

At the end of December 2020, Disney Plus announced that it would expand the program. With Star, the streaming provider is changing from a purely family-friendly portal to a service for everyone – including films and series that go beyond the age limit of FSK12.

No longer just family-friendly: Your Disney Plus will remain child-safe

There is usually no time limit for FSK-restricted films and series on the Internet. This is why child-safe settings for parents are particularly important with streaming providers. With Star, Disney Plus is expanding its range of adult content, but the media library is still safe.

When creating new profiles, you can now choose whether the profile is for kids or not. If you choose these settings, only child-friendly content will be played. In addition, you can now protect all profiles with a four-digit pin, so that the parent accounts are protected from prying eyes.

Star at Disney Plus: First impressions and user experience

Around two months after the announcement of Star, the wait is over: from now on, all Disney Plus subscribers will find the Star button on the start page – right next to Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. The new area can be easily integrated into the Disney Plus landscape: it seems to have been adequately tested before the launch. If you click on the button, you will get to the adult area without any problems, which is kept in the typical design of all Disney Plus media libraries.

The user experience is still good and intuitive. If you click on a film, you will be shown a short summary of the content and recommendations. If you click on a series, you get to a similar overview, which instead of similar titles initially shows you all episodes of the first season. The recommendations are then in another tab. You can still add favorites to your watchlist. You can also download titles on your tablet or smartphone.

Hundreds of new content: that’s what you can expect from Disney Star Plus

Star launches with almost 300 new films and 60 new series. You can look forward to hits like “Desperate Housewives”, “Family Guy”, “Die Hard”, “The X Files”, “Deadpool” and “Pretty Woman”. But it shouldn’t stop there. The program will be expanded continuously over the next few weeks and months. Among other things, new productions with 20th Century Studios and ABC Signature are planned.

The originals from Disney Plus Star can do that

Disney Plus

In addition to many new series and films, Disney Plus Star * is launching four series originals. With the launch package, Disney Plus has created a colorful mix that covers many genres: everything from crime fiction and teen series to science fiction and mystery is included. With the teen drama “Love, Victor”, Disney Plus demonstrates a feeling for progressive material from the LGBTQ community, “Helstrom” is a multi-layered story from the Marvel universe, “Solar Opposites” can be described as a science fiction cartoon at it’s best and “Big Sky” is a crime series directed by star screenwriter David E. Kelley.

Overall, it can be said that there is not a hit behind every original, but the overall package is definitely worth it. There are some highlights here.

How much has a Disney Plus subscription cost since the Star integration?

Since Star is not an optional media library, the subscription price increases for all Disney Plus subscribers. The monthly fee is now 8.99 euros. The annual subscription is cheaper: You save 20.00 euros, as the price here is 89.90 euros.

Conclusion on the start of Disney Plus Star: That’s great, that’s missing

Disney Plus Star * scores with an intuitive user experience, which, however, is hardly surprising as it is based on the original design. Nevertheless: Not every provider integrates new features so smoothly. The new content will inevitably make Disney Plus more attractive, as the streaming portal no longer only appeals to families. The large selection justifies the price increase for the subscription in any case. All in all, a positive conclusion can be drawn about the expansion of the range. The only drawback: Even with the new features, there are no trailers for films and series that competitors such as Netflix have long since integrated.
