Disney is working on a follow-up project of the well-known Planet of the Apesmovies. After the Matt Reeves trilogy, the concept needed updating. Wes Ball will be the director of the new film and he said that production can start soon.
The original film by Planet of the Apes was already made in 1968 and was based on the book La planète des singes by Pierre Boulle. Then, in 2001, Tim Burton directed a remake of the film and eventually Matt Reeves made another trilogy Planet of the Apes.
Continuation of Reeves trilogy
The Planet of the Apesfranchise will come up with a new movie in the near future. Director Wes Ball has given an update about the production of the new film. The new Planet of the Apes will not reboot but rather a continuation of the Matt Reeves trilogy. That was announced in a tweet when rumors spread that the new movie would be a reboot.
An extension of the trilogy means Caesar, the iconic and much-loved chimpanzee Planet of the Apes, more than likely returning in the new Wes Ball movie.
Ball made his breakthrough in the film world with his film The Maze Runner, a remake of the eponymous teenage novel by James Dashner. The film was an immediate success and attracted many fans. This is how he secured his place in the film industry.
In an interview with Screen Rant Ball told me that he regularly meets with Zoom writer Josh Friedman, who previously wrote Locke & Key, to discuss the script for the new film. During the quarantine, the director was particularly inspired and full of ideas for the film. So the lockdown is good for Wes Ball. He even suggested that the film can go into virtual production relatively quickly because the film will mainly contain digital animations.
