With a view to progressive easing and the upcoming holiday season, experts warn of a renewed increase in new corona infections.

Travel time in particular also harbors the risk that the virus will spread even more extensively than before, health researcher Max Geraedts told dpa.

Most recently, two corona outbreaks had become known after church and restaurant visits.

With a view to progressive easing and the upcoming vacation time, experts remind of the risk of a renewed increase in new corona infections. The infection numbers are currently looking good, said doctor and health researcher Max Geraedts from the University of Marburg to the German press agency dpa. However, if people came together again in many places, for example in bars, it could still be enough “to start a steep increase again”.

Geraedts explained that travel time in particular harbors the risk that the virus will spread even more extensively than before, to places that have so far been relatively spared.

“The virus can spread quickly again”

Hajo Zeeb from the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology in Bremen also said: “If you illustrate that only a very small proportion of the population is likely to be immune so far, it is clear that the virus can spread again quickly if the conditions for it are agree. ”At the same time, he also pointed out that the infection numbers are currently declining not only in Germany, but also in travel destinations in the Mediterranean.

Recently, however, two cases of local corona outbreaks had become known. After a service in Frankfurt am Main, more than 40 people were infected with the new corona virus. After visiting a restaurant in Moormerland in Lower Saxony, at least ten people tested positive for the corona virus. The district of Leer assumes that the people in the restaurant are infected.

Thuringia wants to lift restrictions at the state level

At the same time, there is a discussion about further easing after Thuringia’s Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Die Linke) announced that he would like to lift restrictions and protective measures such as wearing a face mask at the state level from the beginning of June. Instead, they should be given regional responsibility. “The motto should be: ‘From bans to bids, from state constraints to self-responsible moderation,” wrote Ramelow on his website.

Restrained reactions came from other federal states. “I think a complete rapid easing is premature,” said Mecklenburg-West Pomerania’s Interior Minister Lorenz Caffier (CDU) of the “Bild am Sonntag”. Baden-Württemberg’s interior minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) told the newspaper: “I am grateful for any easing that we can be responsible for. But we have to be careful and careful. ”The virus is still among us, the danger has not yet been averted. “We must not negligently jeopardize the success achieved in the fight against the disease.”

With a view to the new cases of infection after church and restaurant visits, the Green Party parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt called on the federal states to check their effectiveness against the coronavirus again and again. “Many of them pushed ahead with the easing,” Göring-Eckardt told the newspapers of the Funke media group (Sunday). “Now you have to be careful that the situation doesn’t slip away from us.”
