Electric Car Year 2021: The Most Important New Models (Part 1 – Audi, BMW, Dacia, Ford)

As early as 2020, Tesla’s electric cars received a lot of company (or competition) from other manufacturers, but things are only really getting started in 2021. After the purchase premium was increased this summer, electric car sales increased rapidly, and in the coming year the range will also be significantly larger, because new electric models that have been in preparation for a long time are coming onto the market. In a two-part overview, we present the most important innovations for 2012 beyond Tesla.

Audi e-tron GT
Whether a coupe or a touring limousine: the new Audi e-tron GT fits in almost seamlessly with the Audi model range. Closely related to the Porsche Taycan, the luxury Audi promises very good performance, but should also cost more than 100,000 euros. Audi has not yet confirmed any exact battery data, but spoke of quantities around 90 kWh in previous press releases. An 800-volt charging system is said to be available, although it is not clear whether it is part of the standard equipment. In any case, the Taycan charges with up to 270 kW, which should also apply to the Audi due to the close relationship.

Audi Q4 e-tron
The Q4, which is between the Q3 and Q5 in terms of size, is based on the MEB of the Volkswagen Group, but is significantly wider than, for example, the compact ID.3 electric car. The engine output is currently specified as 225 kW, with 150 kW available at the rear and 75 kW at the front. The Audi is governed and settles at 180 kilometers per hour. According to initial reports, the battery should have a capacity of 82 kWh. That should be enough for 450 WLTP kilometers in the not so light Audi. As in the other VW brothers, the maximum charging power should be 125 kW. No official statements have been made about prices yet, but they should be around 60,000 euros with an upward trend.

BMW i4
With the i4, BMW will launch a new electric car in 2021 that will compete with the Tesla models with its sporty performance. The battery size currently specified is an 80 kWh version, which should result in a range of up to 600 kilometers. With speeds in excess of 200 kilometers per hour, the E-BMW does not belong in the league of throttled vehicles, but with a charging power of 150 kW it lags behind the Tesla Model 3 (and soon Model Y). Prices have not yet been announced for this new electric vehicle either. However, as with other vehicles in this class, they should reach regions of over 50,000 euros.

The BMW iX should also be launched at the end of the year. A study previously known as iNext has been further developed into a production model and gives BMW an absolute luxury model. The BMW iX will probably cost just under 100,000 euros and thus set new standards. The already shown cockpit full of huge screens is new at BMW. A system output of more than 500 hp should enable speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour. This goes well with the huge 100 kWh battery, which according to BMW can be charged with up to 200 kW, but has not yet been finally confirmed. In reality, ranges of almost 500 kilometers should be possible.

Dacia Spring Electric
On the other side of the spectrum, the new Dacia Spring Electric 2021 will hit the market as an absolute price breaker. It should be available for just under 10,000 euros after deducting the German electric car purchase premium – an interesting price for a vehicle that should travel almost 225 kilometers. The information is not yet official. The Dacia Spring is by no means completely new, because in China it is already available as a Renault. A 27 kWh battery is installed, which can be charged with a maximum of 30 kW. The engine is quite small and has an output of just under 45 hp. According to reports, the Dacia should be able to drive almost 125 kilometers per hour and will then be cordoned off.

Ford Mustang Mach-E
With engine outputs of 198 kW and 358 kW, Ford is entering the sporty electric car league and will launch the Ford Mustang Mach-E in 2021. The prices for the new vehicle with historical name start at 45,900 euros. In return, the buyer receives an electric car that should travel up to 610 kilometers. The battery sizes for this are 99 kWh or 68 kWh, the Ford is charged with up to 150 kW. The interior is very reminiscent of Tesla models with its huge screen.
