Netflix is releasing a new film adaptation of the book Matilda from Roald Dahl. We already knew that Lashana Lynch would play the role of Miss Honey and now the actress for Miss Trunchbull is also known. Netflix also cast the very young actress Alisha Weir for the lead role as Matilda.
After 25 years, the novel Matilda by Roald Dahl again in a film jacket. This time it will be done by Netflix. Meanwhile, according to The Hollywood Reporter, three actors are already known for the film.
British actress Emma Thompson, who you may know as Elinor Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility or Karen in Love Actually, will take the role of villain Miss Trunchbull. So she will hammer-throw little girls with pigtails and serve other students a huge chocolate cake. Previously there were rumors that Ralph Fiennes would play the role of Miss Trunchbull, but now the makers are going for a female Trunchbull. Emma Thompson will also be featured in the new live-action remake of The 101 Dalmatians, Cruella.
Earlier it was announced that Lashana Lynch will play the role of Miss Honey. Lynch is best known for her role in Captain Marvel and will soon also be seen in the Bond film No Time To Die, where she will even be given the title of agent 007.
The role of main character Matilda will be played by 11-year-old Alisha Weir. She was previously seen in the film Don’t Leave Home and the series Darklands.
But now she has taken on a major role for the first time. Alisha Weir follows in the footsteps of Mara Wilson, who played the role of Matilda in the 1996 film adaptation by Danny DeVito.
The new movie for Netflix will be directed by Matthew Warchus who previously mentioned Pride made. It is not yet known when the film will be released on Netflix.
